Bio
Melody Nicolette Pilotte is fortunate enough to have a varied, multifaceted, and fulfilling career in the arts, both as a visual artist as well as a musician.
Under the moniker Le Bas-fond, Melody works as a composer, lyricist, producer, and mixer of music that is both apocalyptic and youthfully optimistic. Her endeavours include her own expansive self-produced discography, score for films such as docu-narrative RADIATION FILTERS: A NUCLEAR LOVE STORY and off-Broadway shows, as well as the creation and operation of her own record label, Cutest Kids in Town Records. She is a versatile, expressive soprano, whose catalog ranges from breathy, vintage synth pop coos to stratospheric operatic highs. Peaking at an impressive A6, Melody's coloratura repertoire ranges from Mozart,Weill, Moore, Bach and back again, with signature arias such as "The Willow Song" from The Ballad of Baby Doe and "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen"("The Queen of the Night aria") from Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute). Melody was trained by the great Charlotte Martin.
2019 saw the release of Le Bas-fond's 3rd and 4th long players (LPs), which could not have been more vastly different from each other. Make Believe, released in March of 2019, a collection of legit soprano musical theatre covers used to chronicle seminal personal losses, and featured the talents of Will Curry and Matt Leisy, under the music direction of Charlotte Martin. I Know What You Do On The Internet was a collection of vintage synth pop tracks composed over the last two years of working on Make Believe. Released in October of 2019, IKWYDOTI marked the first full-length record released by Le Bas-fond (that was not a song cycle) to feature Melody as the sole credit.
Melody is currently working on Le Bas-fond's LPs #5 & 6--- one opera, one synth pop, set to be released in 2020.
Melody is a member of the Alliance for Women Film Composers, a union opera singer with the American Guild of Musical Artists, and a BMI registered and affiliated songwriter.
As a painter and illustrator, some of her favourite clients have included RAINN.org, Vienna Teng, SNAG Magazine, and Panels on Pages online magazine.

"...a wonderful multi-talented musician that goes by the name Le Bas-fond. Based out of the California Bay Area, Melody Pilotte is the extraordinary singer/songwriter/instrumentalist who has been creating music & art since she was a little girl. With her newest [record], All the Queen’s Men, Pilotte has once again shown that she is out to raise the standard for her eclectic style that mixes synth/baroque pop, with a clear musical theatre inspiration, & has she ever, yet again.
Enlisting in the assistance of Will Curry, currently 2nd Assistant Conductor for Broadway’s Les Miserables, together they have produced a [a record] with moments that mix Sarah Brightman-esque vocals, with Depeche Mode-like keyboards….all, in a great way."
Mary Lansing, Along Comes Mary, on ALL THE QUEEN'S MEN.
Vocally similar to Kate Bush; musically unique 4/5 stars
It's nice to hear young and musically knowledgeable artists these days experiment with structure and melodies. On All the Queen's Men, experimental synth-baroque-pop duo Le Bas-Fond create an ethereal soundscape that, at some moments, would be at home on the soundtrack to Netflix's original series Stranger Things (particularly the songs "None More Than You" and "Be Brave John"). Other tracks call to mind a combination of Tangerine Dream and classically-trained shibuya-kei sample queen Yuka Honda ("Ringside"). "No Love, No Vacancy" and "Assisi @ 1276" add different shades to the record that are nightmarish and contemplative.
Add to the mix the airy vocals of Le Bas-Fond's Melody Pilotte, whose voice is reminiscent of Kate Bush, and you have a unique collection of tracks - some sparse, some full-bodied. Here's a tip - play "Ringside" on repeat.
